The idea of creating a CD clock can form part of a great teen craft activity involving the recycling old CD disks. The materials needed for this project include; unused CDs or DVDs, glue and old working clock. This CD clock creating technique will ideally help you transform an old working clock or a cheap clock into something new and interesting to have around your work desk or home. The CD clock is both easy and inexpensive to make because the materials required can easily be sought. The procedure requires the use of at least two DVD’s or CDs. The first procedure is to assemble all the construction materials together. Next, unpluck the mask off the clock such as the old two-dollar clock, and remove the clock. The holding mask on the old clock can be removed by untying the two screws holding the clock. Wipe your CD clean using a damp piece of clean cloth and allow it dry.
The next step is to apply glue to the cotton donut of a blank CD and then carefully glue it to the clocks front at the center. Next, apply glue on donut and attach it to the CD. You can reduce the CD hole by cutting a round piece of card board material into a small fitting circle with a small hole to fit the clock pointing mechanism. Apply glue to the printed portion of the paper and stick it at the center of the CD. The next procedure is attaching the clock pointers, the pointer have to be set in the correct order as required beginning with the alarm, hour, minute and seconds pointers. Instead of using an already printed number plate or sticker you can buy the clock numbers and stick them on your CD accordingly using glue. On the other hand, if you do not want to stick the numbers, you can use a paint marker to mark numbers directly on the CD. Once you have fitted the pointers, return the batteries back and set your time.
To stabilize your clock, you can use the glue to stick two pieces of broken CD on the back. If you want to stick your clock on the wall, you can include a hanging wall bracket; the bracket can be purchased, it comes with items such as washer’s, holding arm and nuts. Once the clock is ready, you can keep or present it as a gift to family members or friends. In advanced CD clock making techniques, you can use a dedicated computer software program to create personalized CD clock covers by importing and printing background patterns or photos of your on the CD using a special printer. The printer can also be used to print a numbering system with a style of your choice. On the whole, CDs or DVD disks can be used to make very beautiful clock dials that are not only hand crafted, but also original and custom designed to meet your individual taste.
