Making paper airplane jets with your children is one way of spending time with them while also keeping them busy in doing creative projects. Below is how to make a paper airplane jet.

Materials Needed

You will need to have a piece of paper and some pens or crayons. Masking tape or glue may come in handy.

Prepare a working area

You need to start by creating a space where the children can spend time and construct the paper airplane jet without any distractions. Choose an area that is well lit by natural light, you need to have clean tables to work on and ensure also that the room is free from dirt.

You can opt to work outside therefore choose an area with shade or you can erect a temporary one.

Arrange your materials

Supervise the children while they arrange all materials that they will require on their working space.

Fold paper in half lengthways

Start by folding the paper in half lengthways. Instruct the children to follow closely what you are doing. Smooth out the crease in order to make it well folded therefore strengthening it. You can use your hand or a ruler to crease out the paper. You need to ensure that the edges are inline when the paper is folded. Correct if one edge is sticking out more than the other.

Folding the paper lengthways helps to create a center mark for making an airplane jet.

Unfold the paper and have it flat on the table surface. Pick the left corner of the paper and fold it inwards making a right angled triangle. Crease the edge out to make the edge flat. Proceed by picking the right corner of the paper and fold it inwards into a right angled triangle.

Both folded parts should be beside each other forming a full triangle. You need to make sure that the children have been able to follow what you have done so far. If any child is having difficulty, you need to spend a few minutes to show them.

Proceed by turning the folded paper such that the triangles should now be facing the table. Hold the paper at the edges where the triangle ends and fold it backwards. After you have folded the paper, you need to see an upside triangle formed.

Pick one edge of the paper and fold it inwards. Repeat by folding the other edge inwards. This will create a triangle on top of the other one leading to thicker triangles. The triangles should meet along the middle crease. Fold small triangles at the edge of the folded triangle and proceed by folding the paper in half.

Fold one side of the paper to make the left wing and repeat on the other side to make the right wing. You can add a few decorations using colors. If the folds below the wings are not holding, you can tape them together.
