A person has to learn great magic tricks to become a good magician. However, many magicians are very critical of those that give away magical secrets. This leads to a bit of a conundrum: how does one learn tricks without being taught them? This is much easier in the age of the internet since so many are willing to show how to do certain tricks and pass the knowledge on to others.
Today the trick is a match trick. How easy is it to fool people into thinking tow matches are joined together? Read on to find out.
This is a fairly easy trick that can work in a few different ways. Practice standing in front of an audience. It helps to stand in front of a mirror or in some open space. Start with two matches and put one in each hand. Tell the audience that you can’t make the matches go through the hand or go through each other. However, with a little bit of magic, you can make them go through each other and the hand.
When this trick is pulled off in the correct way, the matches will looked like they are linked and hen unlinked. Hold the matches so it looks like you are holding them between your first finger and your thumb. However, really hold the matches pinched between the first finger and the middle finger while balancing them on the thumb of each hand. Only one hand needs to have the matched pinched between the index finger and the middle finger. Use the other to catch the eyes of the audience and make them think both matches are held between the index finger and the thumb.
“The match is pinched between my index and second finger on top. So, now, when I put my hands together, all I’m doing is moving my thumb so this hand will slip straight into the gap. And then, close it down again.”
Push one match through the other match quickly. This will look like the matches go through one another to the audience. The truth is that the match that is pinched by the index finger can be raised off the thumb in a fast and barely noticeable motion. This allows the other match to go through the tiny gap that is left behind. Don’t raise the first match off the thumb too much or it will be noticed. Now bring the matches back together so it looks like one is locked inside the other. This trick fools the eye into thinking one match goes through the other when done correctly.
Here are some tips: Practice this trick in slow motion until you can do it without thinking. It will take a while before you get to this level but keep at it. Real magic takes a lot of work and dedication. Be sure to have a box of matches handy for when one breaks. It may take a while for you to get this trick totally down. It will be worth it when you see the awes and laughter coming from friends and relatives.
